During the three-week program, you will attend formal lectures, given in French, at the Canadian Institute in Athens, the vibrant Greek capital. And that’s not all! Thanks to the many planned excursions, you will have the chance to explore Greece’s rich archaeological heritage, visiting its sites and museums.

This program, a true gateway to the world of Greek archaeology, requires no prerequisites and can even enrich your academic journey, contributing to your academic path.

This fascinating itinerary immerses you in the ancient history of mainland Greece, from Homeric times to the Hellenistic period.

In addition to visiting major Athenian archaeological sites, you’ll have the chance to follow in the footsteps of Agamemnon, Hercules, and Leonidas on an 8-day excursion to the Peloponnese, a peninsula of mystical beauty in southern Greece, brimming with captivating history.

You’ll also have the opportunity to experience breathtaking Greek landscapes with visits to must-see sites such as the fortress of Methone, the mountain town of Mystras, the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, and, of course, the world-famous Panhellenic sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi!

Eligibility Criteria:

This program is open to all university students.

A professor or lecturer is responsible for the course and the assessment of student learning. Practical activities and knowledge transfer in the field are led by professionals (archaeologists, historians, art historians) under the auspices of the Canadian Institute in Greece. A teaching assistant supports the group throughout the program.

Participants are accommodated in hotels. Rooms are double occupancy. Single occupancy is available for an additional fee.

Registration fees are 3300$, in addition to tuition fees for the course, which is accredited by the University of Montreal. .

Several scholarships are offered by the Canadian Institute in Greece. See the “Study and Travel Scholarships” tab in the main menu of our website. You may also be eligible for scholarships from your home university. We advise you to check with your department.

To participate in the summer school, it is mandatory to have travel insurance for the entire duration of the stay and to provide proof of it.

  1. Complete the registration form   by 31 january 2026.
  2. After receiving confirmation of your participation and the preparation guide, you will have one week to complete the first payment of $500 online.
  3. The remaining balance is payable in two installments:
  • $1800 by February 6, 2026 at the latest;
  • $1000 by March 15, 2026 at the latest;

This itinerary takes you to the heart of ancient history, between the Cycladic islands and Crete, where the art and culture of ancient civilizations await. At the heart of this journey are Cycladic art and culture and the Cretan Bronze Age.

After exploring the famous archaeological sites and museums of Athens, you will set sail for these mythical islands to discover the rich history that has shaped their landscapes since time immemorial.

Beyond the must-see sites like Knossos, Delos, and Akrotiri, you will also have the chance to discover lesser-known treasures, such as the charming medieval villages of the Cyclades, as well as the iconic island of Spinalonga. The adventure will continue with unforgettable hikes through the Cretan mountains, allowing you to immerse yourself in the island’s breathtaking natural beauty.
