2027 at a glance
Since 2022, the Canadian Institute has invited university students from across Canada to take part in its Summer School program in Greece. Throughout the three-week program, students attend formal lectures, given in English, at the Canadian Institute's facilities in Athens, and are accompanied by specialists as they visit Greece's archaeological sites and museums.
Whether you're an aspiring archaeologist or simply curious by nature, you're welcome to join us! The program is open to everyone, with no prerequisites, and can count toward academic credit.

Attica & Peloponnese
An immersion in mainland Greece, from Homeric times to the Hellenistic period.
Discover the archaeological treasures of Athens before travelling to the Peloponnese in the footsteps of Agamemnon, Hercules, and Leonidas. During this 8-day excursion through the legendary peninsula of southern Greece, experience its breathtaking landscapes and explore iconic historic sites, from the fortress of Methone and the mountain town of Mystras to the ancient sanctuary of Olympia.
Back in Attica, visit the iconic Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion and journey to Delphi, the world-famous Panhellenic sanctuary of Apollo.
Eligibility
Applicants must be currently enrolled at a Canadian university.
Prerequisites
No previous knowledge of archaeology or Greek is required.

Academic supervision
A professor or lecturer is responsible for delivering the course, assessing students according to the established evaluation methods, and leading practical activities and visits to archaeological sites and museums. A teaching assistant supports the group throughout the program and assists with the day-to-day activities.

Cycladic Islands & Crete
A journey through the many layers of history woven into the Cyclades and Crete, from the Bronze Age into modern times.
After exploring the archaeological sites and museums of Athens, set sail for the Cyclades and Crete, where ancient civilizations, medieval communities, and Venetian heritage have shaped the landscapes over the centuries. Explore renowned archaeological sites such as Delos, Akrotiri, and Knossos, while gaining insight into the art, cultures, and societies that developed across the Aegean.
Beyond their celebrated antiquities, experience the islands' rich heritage by wandering through picturesque medieval villages and sites such as the Venetian fortress of Spinalonga, and by hiking through the spectacular mountains of Crete.
