Two of his speeches \u2013 the <\/em>Encomium of Helen and the <\/em>Defence of Palamedes \u2013 have been preserved in their entirety. <\/em>In these speeches, Gorgias formulated the beginnings of a poetics and a theory of language. F. Renaud and L.
