The Western Argolid Regional Project (WARP) is an interdisciplinary archaeological research program under the aegis of the\u00a0Canadian Institute in Greece\u00a0and the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Argolid. The project was co-directed by Dimitri Nakassis (University of Toronto), Scott Gallimore (Wilfrid Laurier University) and Sarah James (University of Colorado Boulder), with field seasons from 2014 to 2016.<\/p>\n

WARP aimed to understand human occupation and activity in the hinterland of Argos across all periods of Greek prehistory and history, from the Neolithic to the present, in order to understand the evolving relationship between the city and its surrounding landscape. This research was carried out primarily through the analysis of finds documented during a pedestrian survey of a 30 km\u00b2 research area and entered into a database linked to a Geographic Information System. These data were then complemented by geomorphological data, interviews with local inhabitants of the area, and historical written sources. Considered together, the project examined the settlement history of Argos, traced the dynamics of power and resistance in the western Argolid, and explored how local communities connected to one another and to neighboring valleys in the northeastern Peloponnese.<\/p>\n
